Chambless King is proud to announce that they have recently been honored with three awards from the Montgomery Chapter AIA. An Award of Merit was presented for the Tankersley Residence in Prattville, AL and an Honorable Mention for our office in Montgomery. Along with these judged awards, the event attendees also voted the Tankersley Residence as their favorite entry and the recipient of the People’s Choice Award!
The 18 submitted entries were judged by a panel of distinguished Architects from the Southeast including Frank Harmon, FAIA, Frank Harmon PA, Raleigh, NC, professor at NC State University College of Design; Steve Jernigan, FAIA, Bay Design Associates Architects, PL, Pensacola, FL; and Seab Tuck, FAIA, Principal of Tuck-Hinton Architects, Nashville, TN. Of the entries, 6 were selected for recognition.
Some of the juror’s comments about the Tankersley Residence:
– A clean and straightforward two-story house that stands gently among the trees. The plan of the house is well organized; served and servant spaces are clearly defined and the overall effect is one of calmness. The architect created a handsome interior with unpainted wood, carefully chosen furniture and steel beams that is rustic without being sentimental.
– Although it has a traditional form, this house is memorable because of the architect’s impeccable sense of detail and proportion.
– That view from the meadow is quite simply stunning.
Juror’s comments about the Chambless King Office:
– The architect used heart pine two inches thick to create a screen wall that brings texture and color to the building entrance. By shimming the boards slightly the architect created a quiet ripple of wood and light that is very inviting.
