An Alabama-based burger and doughnut restaurant is eyeing Nashville for its next expansion, according to an application to Nashville's Metro government.

Hero Doughnuts & Buns is hoping to move into the 3,050-square-foot space at 4013 Charlotte Ave., formerly the home of Farm Burger. It is down the street from popular restaurants M.L. Rose, Taqueria del Sol and neighbors to Double Dogs and Chaatable.

A new doughnut and burger joint is eyeing Charlotte Avenue for its fifth location.

Hero Doughnuts & Buns was founded by Wil Drake, a Georgia native who has held a variety of roles in the restaurant industry, as a pop-up concept. He opened his first brick-and-mortar in Homewood in 2017 in partnership with The Pihakis Restaurant Group, according to their website.

The concept gained popularity and expanded both geographically and by its offerings. Hero Doughnuts & Buns now has four locations. Three expansions are in Birmingham's Parkside; Summerhill, Georgia; and Charleston, South Carolina.

The menu features a variety of brioche-style, yeast doughnuts, sandwiches, sides, breakfast creations and salads. Hero Doughnuts & Buns also offers a selection of coffee drinks.

All of the doughnuts and buns are scratch made during a two-day process. Doughnut glazes and fillings are also handmade from fresh fruit.

The concept is family-centric and other Hero locations have a designated space for children to play.

The space is proposed to have 32 indoor seats and 28 patio seats.

The cost of construction, led by Rives Construction, is estimated at $695,000, according to the Metro permit application. Architectural work will be done by Montgomery-based Chambless King Architects.
