Global manufacturing provider Premier Tech announced Wednesday that it plans to build a $33 million facility in Montgomery that will employ 180 people.

The new facility will serve the company's Systems and Automation business group, which designs and builds packaging to help manufacturing plants optimize their production and ramp up their capacity. The 100,000-square-foot facility is expected to open next year in the Montgomery Industrial Park.

"The design of our new plant will allow an increase in production capacity that will sustain our future growth," Premier Tech Systems and Automation President Andre Noreau said in a statement. "It will also allow us to better serve the American market.

"Not only will the team members have a world-class manufacturing environment, but this new plant will become the cornerstone of equipment manufacturing and client solutions in the United States."

The 100-year-old company has its roots in horticulture, but it expanded into manufacturing solutions in the 1990s. It has since branched out into home and garden, water management and other sectors and now has 5,200 employees in 28 countries.

"We are grateful for a global company like Premier Tech who has committed to invest in Montgomery and deepen their roots with innovative end-of-line packaging and the creation of new jobs for our community," Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said in a statement.

“Its investment showcases that Montgomery is on the world stage for innovation and technology,” County Commission Chair Doug Singleton said in a statement.
