Northport’s future River Run Park, encompassing the Black Warrior River, Kentuck Park, Warrior Baseball and Northport’s Levee Trail, got a debut look at Tuesday’s Northport City Council meeting.

The council presented an outline of the design and future of the park, which will include nine baseball and softball fields, park space and river access.

Chambless King Architects’ Michael Shows said it will be far more than a simple athletic complex when things are cimplete.

“Northport is going to prioritize its people, its community, its families,” Shows said. “We’re bringing people to Northport not just to play ball, but to experience Northport. So it has an agenda of doing both, and it’s going to meet the needs of families and players alike.”

Construction for the park will begin at the beginning of next year.
