Northport to break ground on River Run Park ballfields this month

The city of Northport will break ground on River Run Park, its 36-acre baseball and softball complex, later this month on the banks of the Black Warrior River.
As the Thread has previously reported, River Run Park and the broader Northport Shore development that will house it are one of three major recreation projects the city is planning to develop simultaneously.
Not much has been said lately about an outdoor adventure park being planned for 151 acres off Rose Boulevard, and quite a bit has been said lately about the just-revealed $350 million University Beach lagoon resort the city has agreed to partner on with Texas developers.
Northport Shore is being built off 5th Street in Northport and is expected to ultimately feature the existing Kentuck Park and the six ball fields already used by the Warrior Baseball League, plus nine new fields at River Run Park, a recreation and events center, a pickleball and tennis facility, walking trails connecting to the Levee Trail and Van de Graaff Park and more.
The centerpiece, though, is River Run Park, and after months of planning and stockpiling dirt, work is set to officially begin on the sports complex later this month.
On Friday, the city announced they will turn dirt on Monday, March 18th.
