Wetumpka Riverwalk Master Plan
The Wetumpka Riverwalk master plan is aimed at utilizing natural and historic resources to ignite incremental development within the City of Wetumpka’s urban core.
The plan offers guidance on:
Locations in which to focus resources
Steps to ensure identity and character are preserved
Analysis on the types of development likely to thrive
Strategic phasing to position the plan for successful implementation
Transportation connections to and within the study area
To develop the plan, the design team documented existing geographic and built conditions and conducted extensive research and evaluation of the area’s demographic influences and economic climate. The process heavily encouraged public input to ensure the resulting plan matched the community’s vision. Three public presentations and feedback sessions were held over several months during the design phase. Participation in project focus groups was also open to the public. In addition to community members, focus groups were co-chaired by a member of the city council, local business leader, and member of the City’s planning board to encourage conversations and ownership among a wide range of viewpoints.
