PRATTVILLE — Orange dirt is being moved around at the "Gin Shop" project in downtown Prattville to protect the historic buildings.
Crews are building an earthen levee on the south bank of Autauga Creek to secure the historic masonry structures that have their roots in Daniel Pratt's founding of the town that now bears his name. The levee is being built to remove the buildings from the creek's flood plain.

The levee should be completed in late spring, said Kea Calame, senior vice president of Envolve Communities. Envolve is formerly LEDIC Realty the company handling the project. The plan is to build 147 loft style apartments in the buildings.
Crews previously removed the old metal production buildings.
