Etowah County Mega Sports Complex
The Etowah Mega Sports Complex Authority formed in 2015 with the purpose of developing a state-of-the-art sports complex to serve the youth of Etowah County, drive revenue creation through tournament hosting, and allow the area’s championship sports teams to play closer to home. In searching for a location, the Authority primarily focused on proximity to major highways and hotels with future economic development and recreational tourism in mind.
The 280-acre facility will be constructed in two phases, and will include:
13 soccer fields, with championship field
4 baseball fields
3 softball fields
12 tennis courts
12 volleyball courts
6 basketball courts
Recreation center
Facilities for cross country and archery
Maintenance facility
Dog park
RV parking
A preliminary study by Jacksonville State University projects the complex will have an annual economic impact of $94.3 million for Etowah County. The report indicates the creation of 1,290 jobs with $28 million in earnings in Etowah County.
