Chambless King Architects project honored with Top Block award at AIA Alabama convention

The 2023 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Alabama Chapter’s Design Conference was recently held at the Perdido Beach Resort where Chambless King Architects was presented with the Top Block award for the renovation of the Immediate headquarters in Birmingham. Sponsored by the Alabama Concrete Industries Association, the award annually recognizes one Alabama project featuring creative masonry design and constructed using concrete block/concrete masonry units or that utilize concrete masonry as a veneer.

Located in an area that has seen significant development over the past few years, the new Immediate headquarters was a renovation of a block and bar joint building into a two-story office space with exterior stucco finish over block and stud framing. The 3,350-square-foot main floor features an open-concept office area flanked by four conference/flex spaces and a central kitchenette and lounge space. The 1,300-square-foot second floor offers a large conference room and two executive offices with sweeping views of Red Mountain and a 200-square-foot balcony framing Birmingham’s iconic Vulcan statue.
